8 WAYS TO REDUCE MOBILE DATA USAGE [ANDROID]

Here we have listed some of the most effective ways you can save Android data.

Best Ways to Reduce Mobile Data Usage on Android

1. Reduce mobile data usage in Android Settings.

Setting a limit to your monthly data usage is the easiest thing you can do to avoid using surpass amounts of data without your knowledge. You can limit your mobile data usage on Android via the Settings app. 

Head over to the Settings and tap on DataUsage>>Billing Cycle>>Data limit and billing cycle. There you can set the maximum amount of data you intend to use in a month. Additionally, you can also opt for automatic disconnection from the network once the data limit is reached.

2. Restrict App background data

Some apps keep consuming mobile data even when the smartphone is not in use. Background data allows you to keep your apps monitored and updated while multitasking or when the screen is off. But every app doesn’t need to use background data at all times.

Go to Settings >> Data Usage and you can see the statistics for which app is consuming how much of data.

Tap on an app, and you can see both the foreground and background data usage of that particular app. Foreground data usage is the data consumed by the app when it is actively used by you when open. 

Background data is the data consumed when you are not using the app, and the app is running in the background. It requires no action and occurs automatically. This can include things like automatic app updates or sync.

If you find that background data is too high for an app and you don’t need the app to stay in the background at all times, tap on “Restrict app background data.” This ensures that the app will consume data only when it is opened and thereby use less data.


3. Use data compression in Chrome

Google Chrome is one of the most popular Android browsers. It has an inbuilt featurethat can significantly reduce data consumption on Android.

When data compression is turned on, all of your traffic is passed through a proxy run by Google. Your data is compressed and optimized before being sent to your phone. This results in lower data consumption and also speeds up loading of pages without any significant change in web content.

To use data compression, open Chrome, tap on the 3-dot menu on the upper right corner, tap on Settings and scroll down to Data Saver. There you can tap on the upper right corner to toggle Data Saver on.

Turning data saver on also implements Chrome’s Safe Browsing System to detect malicious pages and protect you from malware and harmful content. As you can see in the screenshot above, Chrome managed to save 17% of data over the period of one month.

You can revisit that settings panel in Chrome to see how much data you’ve saved over a period.

4. Update apps over Wi-Fi only

One of the most effective ways to reduce mobile data consumption is to disable automatic app updates in Play Store. Go to Play Store and tap on Menu>>Settings>>Auto-update apps. 

Make sure that you select “Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.” Alternatively, you can choose “Do not auto-update apps,” but it’s not recommended since you’ll have to remember from time to time to update your apps manually.

5. Limit your use of streaming services

Streaming music and videos are the most data-hungry content, as well as high-quality images. Try to avoid these when you are using mobile data. You can opt to store music and videos locally in your storage or download them when you are on connected to WiFi. 


While streaming on mobile data, you can decrease the quality of stream to lower your data usage. Youtube consumes a lot of data, so, make sure you lower the video resolution while using mobile data on Android.

6. Keep an eye on your apps.

Use of data-hungry apps can seriously affect your data consumption while on your mobile network. You may not realize that Google Photos app might be syncing your photos in the background every time you click one. 

Social media apps like Facebook and Instagram consume a lot of data. Try to avoid watching videos and GIF’s in those apps.

Try to use alternatives to some apps that will still perform the required functions while consuming fewer data. For example, Facebook Lite is a highly lite alternative to the Facebook app. Moreover, it saves battery life and data usage. TweetCaster is a similar option for the Twitter app.

7. Cache Google Maps for offline use

Did you know that you can save maps in the Google Maps app? Caching Google maps for offline use can save both your time and data. Once a map is downloaded, you can even navigate when the phone is offline just by using your GPS. 

This proves to be handy for daily commute and when you are traveling, as you can never be sure whether some places will have network coverage. It is a good idea to download the map of your home area and regions you frequently travel to.

So, next time you are on Wi-Fi, open Google Maps, go to Menu and select “Offline Maps.“. There you can tap on “Select your own map“ and zoom in or out to select the area you want to be available offline.

Once you’ve decided upon the area, press “Download.”

8. Optimize Account Sync Settings

Your account sync settings are to auto-sync by default. Keep auto-sync disabled for data-hungry apps like Facebook and Google+ which use sync services to sync files like photos and videos, consuming a lot of data in the process.

Google constantly sync’s your data when a change is made. Most of these sync services might not be required. This background sync service affects both your data consumption and battery life.

To adjust your sync setting open the go to Settings>>Accounts. There you can fine tune sync settings for different apps. To optimize Google sync, tap on Google and turn off the options you don’t require. For example, I don’t need Google Fit data, Google Play Movies, and Google Play Music to be synced. So, I toggled them off while keeping the other services on to be synced.

Bonus Tips and Tricks to reduce mobile data usage on Android:

- Download large files when you are on Wi-Fi.
- Do not clear your System Cache unless you have no other way to free your space.
- Turn off mobile data when not required.
- Turn off notifications for apps that you don’t need to be notified.
- Set longer update interval for home screen widgets that are frequently updated.

FAKTA SAINS: Fenomena halo (bahasa Greek: ἅλως) adalah lingkaran cahaya seakan-akan pelangi yang mengelilingi Matahari atau Bulan. Ia adalah sejenis fenomena optik yang lebih kerap terjadi daripada kejadian pelangi.

Di bahagian Eropah dan sebahagian daripada Amerika Syarikat (AS) sering berlaku dan boleh dilihat dalam lingkungan dua kali seminggu. 

Terdapat banyak jenis halo, tetapi kebanyakannya terjadi dari kristal ais dalam awan sirus sejuk yang terletak pada ketinggian 5–10 km di lapisan troposfera atas. 

Bentuk dan orientasi kristal-kristal ini menentukan bentuk halo yang terjadi.
Kekerapan kejadian melibatkan pusingan radius 22° halo dan sundogs(Parhelia). 

Parhelic circle pula adalah biasan cahaya kristal yang melepasi sundogs dan mengelilinginya. Kadangkala ia melapisi keseluruhan ruang langit dalam latitut yang sama dengan matahari.

Pembinaan tangen ketinggian dan rendah (Upper Tangent arc and Lower Tangent arc) menyentuh secara terus dengan 22° halo sama ada di atas atau dibawah matahari. Pembinaan Lengkungan (Circumzenithal arc) akan terjadi di atas semua kristal tersebut.

Radius 22° halo tidak kelihatan. Ia seperti helaian yang berlapis-lapis atau habuk pada permukaan awan cirrus yang nipis. Awan ini sejuk dan mengandungi ais kristal walaupun pada iklim yang sangat panas.

Halo sangat besar. Ia selalu mempunyai diameter yang sama dalam posisinya di langit. Kadang-kadang hanya sebahagian sahaja yang muncul. 

Semakin kecil cincin cahaya yang terbias muncul mengelilingi matahari atau bulan dihasilkan oleh corona dari lebih banyak titisan air daripada dibiaskan oleh ais kristal. Ia tidak mengaitkan bahawa hujan akan turun.

Apabila ingin melihat halo pastikan kedua mata anda dilindungi dari pancaran matahari. Jangan sesekali memandang terus dan lama pada halo.

Sembunyikan matahari dari penglihatan di balik binaan, bangunan atau apa-apa sahaja. Berhati-hati apabila mengambil gambar halo tanpa pelindung matahari. Ia sangat merbahaya untuk mengambil gambar terus terutamanya mengunakan kamera SLR.

Najat Driouech Azam Jadi Ahli Parlimen Wanita Islam Pertama di Catalonia

GLOBAL : Bakal calon Ahli Parlimen wanita Islam pertama Catalonia berharap kaum hawa di wilayah itu diberi peluang sama dengan golongan lelaki untuk terlibat aktif dalam arena politik.

Ketika ini, terdapat kira-kira 515,000 umat Islam di Catalonia dan menyumbang hampir 15 peratus kepada populasi di wilayah itu.

Agensi Berita Antarabangsa BBC NEWS melaporkan, Najat Driouech memulakan kempen memperkasakan peranan wanita dalam arena politik Catalonia selepas wilayah terbabit dirundung krisis pengisytiharan kemerdekaan tidak sah.

“Saya tidak mahu anak-anak saya merasai kesengsaraan dilalui datuk dan nenek mereka atau seperti saya rasakan. Saya mahu mereka hidup dalam suasana bermasyarakat inklusif, sama rata dan diiktiraf dalam pelbagai perkara mereka lakukan,” katanya.

Najat tiba di Catalonia dari Maghribi bersama ibu bapanya ketika usianya sembilan tahun pada 1990.

Di wilayah tersebut, beliau terlibat secara aktif sebagai pekerja komuniti untuk majlis perbandaran tempatan di Masnou yang merupakan sebuah pekan di luar Barcelona selama 17 tahun.

Biarpun tidak menyertai sebarang parti politik sebelum ini, Najat bersetuju menyertai senarai pencalonan bagi parti prokemerdekaan, Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) untuk mencabar kemampuan dirinya ke peringkat yang lebih tinggi.

PENTAGON Biayai Program Rahsia Siasat UFO

MISTERI KONSPIRASI: Jabatan Pertahanan Amerika Syarika PENTAGON mengakui membiayai program rahsia bernilai AS$22 juta (RM89.8 juta) untuk menyiasat kewujudan Unidentified Flying Object (UFO).

Menurut Jabatan Pertahanan, program itu bagaimanapun telah berakhir pada 2012 namun akhbar New York Times melaporkan ia masih berjalan.

“Program itu dihentikan bagi memberikan keutamaan kepada pembiayaan lain dan adalah atas kepentingan Jabatan Pertahanan untuk membuat perubahan.

“Kami mengambil kira semua bentuk ancaman dan potensi ancaman kepada rakyat, aset serta misi selain mengambil tindakan sekiranya terdapat maklumat yang boleh dipercayai,” kata Jabatan Pertahanan dalam satu kenyataan dikeluarkan, lapor Agensi Berita Antarabangsa AFP.

Para pegawai Pentagon dikatakan masih menyiasat kejadian UFO selepas menerima laporan daripada anggota tentera AS.

Tambah laporan New York Times, program dikenali sebagai Advanced Aviation Threat Identification itu dijalankan dari 2007 hingga 2012.

Program terbabit dikatakan meneliti dokumen memperlihatkan UFO yang bergerak pantas tanpa sebarang kesan dan video pertemuan objek tersebut dengan pesawat ketenteraan Amerika Syarikat (AS).

Selain itu, New York Times me­laporkan program berkenaan pada mulanya dibiayai atas permintaan bekas Senator Harry Reid, yang juga merupakan pe­minat angkasa lepas.

1.     Kaji selidik kecenderungan pengundi untuk mengenal pasti sentimen pengundi di seluruh negara melibatkan 5,000 orang pengundi berdaftar yang dipilih secara rawak oleh sistem komputer

2.     Kaji selidik kecenderungan pengundi di kerusi-kerusi marginal yang akan menyaksikan saingan sengit di antara BN dan PH, melibatkan 1,500 orang pengundi berdaftar di setiap kerusi marginal

Kajian dijalankan di minggu pertama setiap bulan dan keputusannya digunakan oleh INVOKE untuk menambahbaik profil 14 juta pengundi yang digunakan untuk mengenal pasti pengundi atas pagar yang dihubungi oleh sukarelawan INVOKE.

Kaji selidik nasional melibatkan 5,000 pengundi berdaftar di seluruh negara dijalankan di antara 5 hingga 13 Disember 2017, sementara kaji selidik di peringkat parlimen dijalankan di antara 6 November hingga 15 Disember 2017.

Dapatan-dapatan utama dari kaji selidik tersebut adalah:

        i.         Hanya 41% dari pengundi Melayu di seluruh negara menyatakan akan mengundi Umno jika PRU dipanggil dan berlaku pertandingan 3 penjuru

       ii.         Sekitar 50% dari pengundi Melayu yang akan mengundi Umno bersetuju bahawa GST membebankan dan menyokong jika ia dihapuskan. Ini bermakna tahap sokongan pengundi Melayu kepada Umno akan terus merosot kerana pengundi Umno pun merasa tekanan kos sara hidup

      iii.         Tahap sokongan pengundi kepada PAS telah jatuh merudum dalam tempoh 12 bulan. Hanya 14% pengundi Melayu menyatakan akan mengundi PAS dalam pertandingan 3 penjuru, jatuh 11% berbanding 25% pengundi Melayu yang memilih PAS dalam kaji selidik yang sama Januari 2017 lalu

      iv.         Tahap sokongan pengundi Melayu kepada PAS dijangka terus merosot dalam bulan-bulan akan dating. Dari 14% pengundi Melayu yang menyatakan akan menyokong PAS, hanya 21% akan tidak keluar mengundi sekiranya PAS tidak bertanding. Sebahagian besar pengundi PAS memilih untuk menyokong PH jika hanya PH dan BN bertanding, iaitu sebanyak 51% mengundi PH berbanding 28% yang akan mengundi BN

       v.         Tahap sokongan pengundi Cina kepada PH telah kembali ke paras 2013 iaitu melepasi 80% dalam bulan Disember 2017

      vi.         Tahap sokongan pengundi India juga telah kembali kepada paras 2013 iaitu 60% berpihak kepada BN dan 40% kepada PH

     vii.         Tahap sokongan pengundi Melayu kepada Umno lebih parah di negeri-negeri marginal utama iaitu Kedah dan Johor.

   viii.         Hanya 31% pengundi Melayu di kerusi parlimen Kulim Bandar Baru dan Merbok memilih Umno dalam pertandingan 3 penjuru, membayangkan tahap sokongan Melayu di Kedah kepada Umno adalah lebih rendah dari tahap nasional

     ix.         Begitu juga di Johor – hanya 30% pengundi di Johor Bahru memilih Umno dalam pertandingan 3 penjuru. Angka tersebut konsisten dengan kajian Institut Kajian Asia Tenggara NUS (ISEAS) yang mendapati tahap sokongan pengundi Melayu seluruh Johor kepada Umno hanyalah 35%, bermakna tahap sokongan di kawasan bandar seperti Johor Bahru adalah lebih rendah

BERITA TERGEMPAR: Kapal Angkasa Star Wars mendarat di Tanjong Karang

Keheningan dan kedamaian kawasan sawah padi di Tanjung Karang Selangor dikejutkan dengan kehadiran objek kapal angkasa ala Star Wars yang tiba-tiba mendarat di kawasan itu.

Gempar dengan penemuan itu penduduk kampung berpusu-pusu tidak melepaskan peluang melihat kehadiran objek kapal angkasa dipercayai dari luar angkasa lepas.

Malahan kehadiran Tentera Strormtrooper mahu meminjam motor serta meninjau kawasan sawah padi itu turut menggemparkan penduduk.

Ketika ini dunia dikejutkan dengan filem terbaharu Star Wars dengan sekuel 'The Last Jedi' apabila berjaya mencatat kutipan setakat 18 Disember 2017 mencecah RM1.83 bilion di seluruh dunia.

Suasana itu adalah imaginasi fantasi penulis bagi menggambarkan suasana hasil melihat foto dihasilkan Zahir Batin atau nama sebenar Zahirudin Ali menghasilkan suasana ala futuristik Star Wars yang dihasilkan pada sekiar 2015.

Beliau adalah seorang jurugambar tempatan yang menampilkan watak dan objek popular dari filem Star Wars beberapa tahun lalu.

Strormtrooper, T.I.E starfighter, X-Wing, AT-AT dan Ewok adalah antara karekter popular Star Wars yang dimasukkan dalam koleksi The Intruder.

Menggunakan mainaan kecil dan daya sentuhan kreativiti berjaya menghasilkan satu siri imaginasi manipulasi photo apabila Star Wars melanda kawasan sawah padi di Tanjung Karang, Selangor.

Jurugambar, Zahir Batin mengabadikan elemen-eleman dari siri filem Star Wars bersama dengan permandangan kampung indah di Selangor.

Sebelum ini Astro Awani pada 28 Julai 2015  melaporkan Zahir berkata idea untuk menggabungkan dua elemen ini datang secara spontan dan didorong oleh perasaan ingin tahu.

Menurut beliau semua foto dirakam di sekitar kawasan rumahnya yang terletak di Kampung Sawah Sempadan, Tanjong Karang.
