The reason stems from the very air we breathe. If the Earth had no air, then Earth’s shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse would appear black. The presence of Earth’s air means that, during a lunar eclipse, sunlight can filter through Earth’s atmosphere onto the shadow on the moon. This filtered sunlight makes the moon appear red during a total eclipse.
But red isn’t the only color of a totally eclipsed moon. An eclipsed moon can appear brown, red, orange or yellow. The color depends on the presence of dust and clouds in Earth’s atmosphere. If there has been a major volcanic eruption, for example, the shadow on the moon will appear dark throughout an eclipse. In December 1992, not long after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines, there was so much dust in Earth’s atmosphere that the totally eclipsed moon could barely be seen.
Can anyone know in advance how red the moon will appear during a total lunar eclipse? Not precisely. Before an eclipse takes place, you’ll often hear people speculating about it. Ketua Bahagian Falak, Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi, Dr Kassim Bahali, berkata apa yang lebih menarik ialah fenomena itu berlaku sebanyak dua kali tahun ini, sekali lagi pada Disember nanti selepas kali terakhir berlaku pada 16 Julai 2000.
Katanya, gerhana penuh bulan yang cuma berlaku ketika fasa purnama ini juga boleh dilihat di benua Afrika, Eropah, sebahagian besar Asia dan Australia.
“Gerhana ini dikatakan paling gelap pernah berlaku kerana biasanya walaupun gerhana penuh, kita masih boleh melihat sedikit cahaya pada permukaan bulan. Keadaan ini disebabkan ketika fasa gerhana penuh itu, bulan melintasi bayang paling gelap bumi iaitu umbra. Permulaan gerhana penuh kali ini boleh dilihat penduduk di selatan Chile, timur Argentina dan timur Brazil.
“Di Malaysia, gerhana dapat dilihat ketika bulan terbit di langit timur pada awal pagi. Penghujung gerhana penuh dapat dilihat penduduk Thailand, Kemboja, Vietnam dan barat Australia. Bahagian barat Eropah pula akan melihat bulan terbit yang mengalami gerhana penuh. Mereka melihat bulan gelap terbit di timur yang kebiasaannya terang ketika fasa purnama. Kali ini bulan kelihatan seolah-olah hilang,” katanya.
Kejadian gerhana bulan hanya berlaku ketika fasa purnama dan apabila seluruh atau sebahagian bulan memasuki bayang bumi. Cahaya matahari yang jatuh ke atas bumi menyebabkan sebahagian bumi terang (siang) dan sebahagian lagi gelap (malam) serta menyebabkan bayang bumi mengunjur ke angkasa.
Beliau berkata, ada dua bahagian bayang, di bahagian dalam dan luar. Bayang bahagian dalam dinamakan umbra, yang lebih gelap daripada bahagian luar, penumbra.
“Sekiranya bulan purnama, ia memasuki kawasan bayang akan mengakibatkan terjadinya gerhana. Jika seluruh bulan memasuki umbra, gerhana penuh akan berlaku. Jika hanya sebahagian bulan memasuki umbra, gerhana separa yang akan berlaku dan jika bulan hanya memasuki penumbra, gerhana penumbra yang akan terjadi.
“Bagaimanapun gerhana bulan tidak berlaku setiap bulan. Ini disebabkan satah orbit bulan condong sebesar lima darjah berbanding dengan satah orbit bumi. Gerhana hanya berlaku sekiranya bulan melalui satah orbit bumi,” katanya.
Pada 15 Jun ini, gerhana penuh terjadi disebabkan seluruh bulan memasuki umbra. Magnitud gerhana kali ini ialah 1.71, yang menunjukkan darjah kegelapan permukaan bulan. Nilai ini menunjukkan gerhana bulan kali ini adalah gelap.
Di Malaysia, fasa gerhana kali ini bermula apabila bulan menyentuh penumbra pada jam 1.24 pagi waktu tempatan, 16 Jun 2011. Ketika fasa gerhana ini bermula, bulan berada di langit barat. Ketika berada dalam bayang penumbra, cahaya bulan mula berkurangan tetapi sukar dikesan dengan mata kasar.
“Fasa penuh bermula apabila bulan mula menyentuh umbra pada jam 3.22 pagi. Bulan mula kelihatan gelap secara perlahan-lahan sehingga ia menjadi gelap sepenuhnya jam 03.22 pagi dan di tengah-tengah fasa penuh pada jam 04.13. Tempoh bulan mengalami fasa gelap sepenuhnya selama 100 minit.
“Bulan mula meninggalkan bayang umbra dan memasuki penumbra secara perlahan-lahan pada jam 5.02 pagi. Ia mula kelihatan bercahaya sedikit demi sedikit sehingga penuh sejam kemudian dan kembali normal pada 07:02 pagi. Gerhana bulan boleh dilihat dengan mata kasar tanpa perlu menggunakan penapis,” katanya.
The Schumann resonances (SR) are a set of spectrum peaks in the extremely low frequency (ELF) portion of the Earth's electromagnetic field spectrum. Schumann resonances are global electromagnetic resonances, excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth's surface and the ionosphere. In the normal mode descriptions of Schumann resonances, the fundamental mode is a standing wave in the Earth–ionosphere cavity with a wavelength equal to the circumference of the Earth. This lowest-frequency (and highest-intensity) mode of the Schumann resonance occurs at a frequency of approximately 7.83 Hz, but this frequency can vary slightly from a variety of factors, such as solar-induced perturbations to the ionosphere, which comprises the upper wall of the closed cavity. The higher resonance modes are spaced at approximately 6.5 Hz intervals, a characteristic attributed to the atmosphere's spherical geometry. The peaks exhibit a spectral width of approximately 20% on account of the damping of the respective modes in the dissipative cavity. The eighth overtone lies at approximately 59.9 Hz.
Observations of Schumann resonances have been used to track global lightning activity. Owing to the connection between lightning activity and the Earth's climate it has been suggested that they may also be used to monitor global temperature variations and variations of water vapor in the upper troposphere. It has been speculated that extraterrestrial lightning (on other planets) may also be detected and studied by means of their Schumann resonance signatures. Schumann resonances have been used to study the lower ionosphere on Earth and it has been suggested as one way to explore the lower ionosphere on celestial bodies. Effects on Schumann resonances have been reported following geomagnetic and ionospheric disturbances. More recently, discrete Schumann resonance excitations have been linked to transient luminous events – sprites, elves, jets, and other upper-atmospheric lightning. A new field of interest using Schumann resonances is related to short-term earthquake prediction.

If the need for oil no longer existed the government of the United States would not be preparing for war with Iran by attacking the countries that surrounds Iran.
The U.S. government is attacking and mass murdering the people of the countries that surround Iran in order to besiege Iran. Once U.S. troops are on the ground in Iran’s neighboring countries the U.S. will launch yet another unprovoked war of aggression against another oil producing nation.
This and all other future wars of aggression by the United States, Britain, France or any of their allies can be averted when the people of Earth decide collectively to drop oil as its main fuel source.
When we use alternative free energy sources we take away the political value of oil. When we use wind, solar and water (all 3 are free energy sources) as our main sources of energy oil will lose its political luster and value.
When the luster is gone the wars and the war drums will stop. When the dark cold oil no longer flows through the veins of the governments of the United States, Britain and France, their oil wars will end.

Staff at several government offices in Putrajaya rushed out of the building after tremors were felt from earthquakes in Sumatra on Tuesday
SHAH ALAM 14 Jun - Satu gempa bumi sederhana bermagnitud 5.5 pada skala Richter telah berlaku di Sumatera Utara pada 8:08 pagi.
Pusat gempa bumi terletak di 1.8º Utara dan 98.8º Timur, 330km Barat daya Klang, Selangor.
Gegaran dirasai di beberapa tempat di Pantai Barat Semenanjung Malaysia terutama di sekitar negeri Selangor, Selatan Perak dan Melaka.
Bangunan Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri (SUK) Selangor mengalami gegaran sekitar jam 8.08 pagi ini dan semua kakitangan yang sudah memasuki premis berkenaan diarah keluar.
Gegaran terasa di Kompleks E2 Putrajaya,semua diarahkan mengosongkan bangunan sehingga bangunan disahkan selamat.
Difahamkan gegaran itu dirasakan kira-kira seminit lamanya.
Tiada ancaman Tsunami.
The earthquake at 8.08am Malaysian time was at a depth of 78km and 6km north of Rantauprapat, according to meteorological agencies.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 330km northeast of Klang.
The tremors were felt in some high-rises and houses in the Bangsar and Damansara suburbs. Residents of Selangor, southern Perak and Malacca also reported tremors.
However, no tsunami alarm was issued.

” Gegaran keempat dijangka akan lebih kuat,” katanya menerusi laman sosial twitter.
Komunitikini mendapati kakitangan itu dilihat memasuki bangunan tersebut kira-kira jam 2 tengah hari tadi.

Azizan berkata gegaran di dalam bangunan amat dirasai terutama dari tingkat lapan bangunan ke atas.
Tiada sebarang kejadian tidak diingini dilaporkan berlaku.
Penolong Editor Meja Penyuntingan Bahasa Inggeris Perkhidmatan Berita Dalam Negeri Bernama, M. Govind Nair, 60, berkata beliau merasai gegaran itu ketika sedang menjalankan tugasnya menyunting berita di mejanya.
"Saya rasa gegaran itu kira-kira lima hingga enam saat. Saya juga rasa kerusi tempat duduk saya bergoyang sedikit dan selepas itu saya rasa pening-pening," katanya.
Pembantu tadbir Infolib Bernama Mohd Wahid Md Som, 53, berkata beliau merasakan gegaran itu kira-kira 10 saat.
"Saya tak terfikir mahu berlari keluar kerana gegaran itu hanya terasa sedikit dan sekejap. Walaupun ada sedikit rasa takut, saya tawakal," katanya, yang bertugas di tingkat lapan Wisma Bernama.
Di PUTRAJAYA, gegaran beberapa saat dirasai di Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI).
Pegawai Perhubungan Awam MOSTI, Noriza Nazri berkata semua petugas di bangunan itu diarahkan meninggalkan premis berkenaan dan diarahkan berada di pekarangan bangunan sementara menunggu dibenarkan kembali memasuki bangunan.
Di KUALA SELANGOR, Meor Anas, 46, seorang Eksekutif Kejuruteraan di loji air Sungai Selangor berkata gegaran kecil terasa semasa beliau berada di pejabatnya kira-kira pukul 11 pagi.
"Gegaran beberapa saat itu terasa ketika saya berada di tempat duduk saya. Masa itu saya terlihat air di dalam balang (dispenser air) berkocak sedikit dan fail di atas meja saya sedikit bergerak," katanya.
Di SHAH ALAM, petugas di Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SAAS) di sini meninggalkan pejabat masing-masing dan berkumpul di dataran dan kawasan lapang berhampiran bangunan setelah merasai gegaran pada kira-kira 8 pagi dan sekali lagi pada pukul 11 pagi.
Rahmah Abdul, 45, yang bertugas di tingkat 18 bangunan itu berkata kipas dan mejanya tiba-tiba bergoyang ketika dia baru hendak memulakan tugas.
"Saya panik sebab nampak semua bergoyang. Saya dan beberapa kawan terus turun," katanya ketika ditemui di dataran Bangunan SAAS.
Abdul Rahman Ahmad, 36, berkata semua petugas dibenarkan naik semula ke pejabat masing-masing selepas pemeriksaan oleh Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat.
Namun, kira-kira pukul 11 satu lagi gegaran dirasakan dan semua petugas diarahkan turun semula ke dataran oleh pihak pengurusan Bangunan SAAS.
Pengurus Komunikasi Korporat Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) Hashimah Che Mat Din, yang kebetulan menghadiri mesyuarat di tingkat 21 bangunan SAAS, turut merasai gegaran itu.
"Kami diminta meninggalkan bangunan dan turun segera bagi mengelak sebarang kejadian tidak diingini," katanya.
Sehingga pukul 12 tengah hari, tinjauan Bernama mendapati petugas di bangunan itu masih berkumpul di dataran dan kawasan lapang bangunan SAAS.
Seorang penduduk di Kampung Meru, Klang, Suziela Che Mat memaklumkan rumahnya mengalami gegaran dalam kejadian itu.
"Katil di dalam bilik rasa bergegar, waktu itu saya sedang membaca buku di atas katil. Saya juga nampak air masak dalam botol (terletak di meja bersebelahan) bergoncang," kata suri rumah itu.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of the fire division Azizan Ismail said people in several high-rise buildings in the city called in to report the tremors.
Among the buildings in Kuala Lumpur where the tremors were felt at about 11am were Wisma Bernama, Menara Kenanga, the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) headquarters and Megan Avenue.
Azizan said the tremors were more intense from the eighth floor upwards, but added that there were no reports of damage.
M. Govind Nair, 60, Bernama's assistant editor at the English Sub-Editing Desk at Wisma Bernama, said he felt the tremors at about 11 am.
"The tremors lasted for five to six seconds. My chair shook a bit, and then I felt a little dizzy," he said.
Bernama's Infolib administrative assistant Mohd Wahid Md Som, 53, said he felt the tremors for about 10 seconds.
"I did not think of rushing out of the building because the tremors only lasted for a short while. I was a little afraid but remained calm," said Mohd Wahid who works on the eighth floor.
In PUTRAJAYA, the tremors were felt at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
MOSTI Public Relations Officer Noriza Nazri said all employees were instructed to leave the building, and they were seen waiting outside until they were allowed to return.
