BRUSSELS – European Union nations agreed to give euro67.5 billion ($89.4 billion) in bailout loans to Ireland on Sunday to help it weather the cost of its massive banking crisis, and sketched out new rules for future emergencies in an effort to restore faith in the euro currency.

PARIS (AFP) – King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia urged the United States to attack Iran to destroy its nuclear programme, according to US documents leaked by WikiLeaks and published Sunday by daily newspapers.
BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said on Sunday that China and the United States should help ease the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and facilitate dialogues.

In a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about the recent development on the Korean Peninsula, Dai said that China is deeply concerned with the dynamics in the area.

Beijing holds that the immediate priority is to try to calm the current situation and reject any move that might escalate the tensions, he added.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. diplomats are spying on the leadership of the United Nations as well as the permanent Security Council representatives from China, Russia, France and Britain, classified cables released on Sunday show.

"The United States has expanded the role of American diplomats in collecting intelligence overseas and at the United Nations, ordering State Department personnel to gather the credit card and frequent-flier numbers, work schedules and other personal information of foreign dignitaries," The New York Times said in its website.
BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- In the aftermath of Tuesday's artillery fire exchange between the DPRK and South Korea, a US aircraft carrier and more American warships have entered the waters off the peninsula's coast, for joint military drills with South Korea.

A large-scale joint military exercise between the United States and South Korea started on Sunday, off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, and will last for 4 days. The US military said the exercises were planned long before the severe military conflict between the DPRK and South Korea, which started on Tuesday.
